TxDOT begins construction on RM 620 improvements

Published on March 11, 2020 under RRnews

The Texas Department of Transportation has officially broken ground on $27.4 million in improvements to RM 620 in Round Rock.

The project, which stretches from I-35 to Deep Wood Drive, will elevate lanes over Union Pacific Railroad tracks and Lake Creek Drive and introduce a roundabout under the planned overpass at RM 620 and Chisholm Trail. These highlights combined with lane widening, the addition of frontage roads and enhancement of pedestrian and bicycle accommodations are expected to reduce travel times associated with high traffic volumes in the area and improve roadway safety.

“Improvements to RM 620 are vital for our Round Rock residents and visitors. Just as importantly, with the addition of overpasses, our emergency services will soon be able to get to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center with less delay,” said Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan. “It is no exaggeration to say that this project will save lives.”

Project highlights include:

  • Overpasses at Chisholm Trail and Lake Creek Drive
  • Eastbound and westbound frontage roads
  • Widen lanes along RM 620 and build bicycle and pedestrian accommodations
  • Construct a roundabout at RM 620 and Chisholm Trail

Construction is expected to be complete by late 2022, weather permitting.

Information on lane closures and other construction-related information will be made available by TxDOT at my35construction.org.
