The Milken Institute ranked the cities 3rd in the nation in its annual Best Performing Cities series, which has tracked the economic performance of cities across the country for more than two decades.
Round Rock-Austin is one of two Texas metro areas to make the top 10 – the other being Dallas-Plano-Irving, which came in at the No. 9 spot:
- San Francisco-Redwood City-South San Francisco, CA
- Provo-Orem, UT
- Round Rock-Austin, TX

- Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, FL
- Boise City, ID
- Seattle-Bellevue-Everett, WA

The study takes into account job growth, wage and salary growth, and growth domestic product (GDP) indicators in its analysis of urban economies.
