Round Rock approves zoning for new data center

Round Rock City Council unanimously approved the rezoning of 32.48 acres north of Louis Henna Boulevard and east of Greenlawn Boulevard on Oct. 26, paving the way for a new data center by Switch, Inc.

The Las Vegas, Nev.-based data center currently has another data center campus under construction east of South Mays Street and north of Dell Way.

This rezoning transitions the property from the C-1 (General Commercial) zoning district to a PUD (Planned Unit Development) zoning district. This newly rezoned tract was previously a part of Dell’s Campus.

Round Rock’s Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the PUD on Sept. 20.

Switch, Inc.’s new data center will supplement the company’s ongoing construction in the area. In December 2022, Round Rock City Council approved a Chapter 380 economic program agreement with Switch, requiring the company to make an $80 million investment by 2026.
