Phone Scammers Impersonating Government Personnel
The Round Rock Police Department is encouraging residents to be on the lookout for suspicious phone calls impersonating law enforcement personnel. Scammers have been calling residents, claiming to be a police officer or another local, state, or federal agency. They will tell the resident they have failed to attend jury duty, pay taxes, or some other violation and must pay fine or will otherwise be arrested. In some cases, scammers will spoof the exact number of the department to disguise their identity. If you receive one of these phone calls, the Round Rock Police Department recommends you hang up immediately and call the agency directly.
