Mason family donates 165-year-old artifacts to Leander

When Col. Charles C. Mason left North Carolina in 1851 to journey to Bagdad, Texas, he brought his family’s possessions inside two large trunks. Mason and about 300 others traveled for six months, covering 40 miles on a good day, with all their goods loaded on 100 wagons. He become a prominent landowner in Bagdad, which is now part of Leander. Mason was a Civil War veteran and is buried in Bagdad Cemetery.
