Drought watch in effect for major Round Rock water sources

On March 18, 2022, the Brazos River Authority implemented Stage 1 – Drought Watch for Lake Georgetown and Stillhouse Hollow Lake, the City’s primary sources of water. Drier than normal conditions in the Brazos River basin prompted the warning stage. 

While there are currently no mandatory water restrictions in place, City of Round Rock water customers should use water wisely to help ensure adequate supply during the hotter summer months.

• Do not water during the heat of the day, between noon and 7 p.m. 
• If watering is necessary, follow the outdoor watering schedule
• Reduce irrigation system run times
• Report water waste (i.e., water runoff in the street, sprinklers running in the afternoon)
• Repair leaks

Nearly 75 percent of the City’s drinking water is used for irrigation during the summer. Following the City’s outdoor watering schedule and adjusting irrigation run times can help save water while maintaining a healthy lawn.

The best time of day for watering is early morning or during evening hours to allow water the ability to soak into soil and reach the roots of your grass and plants. Watering during the heat of the day, especially between noon and 7 p.m., should be avoided as much of the water sprayed from sprinklers will evaporate and be wasted.
