City to break ground Monday on two fire stations

Round Rock City Councilmembers, Fire Chief David Coatney, members of the Fire Department, City officials and area residents will celebrate the ground breaking ceremony of Fire Station No. 4 and Fire Station No. 8, at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at 1301 Double Creek Drive.

“The construction of these two fire stations is to improve the response needs of the community and shows our City’s dedication to the safety and well-being of our citizenry,” Battalion Chief Shane Glaiser said.

The groundbreaking will be celebrated at the future home of Station No. 4. Station No. 8 will be at 1612 Red Bud Lane. The new station No. 4 will replace an existing station on Gattis School Road. The two new stations will improve response times in the southwest section of the city.

These new fire stations are approximately 11,779 square feet, one story with three apparatus bays. They are the first to be constructed with bond funds approved by Round Rock voters in 2013. They will include all typical amenities for fire rescue personnel and are deigned to be energy efficient.

Estimated cost of construction is $4.1 million per station. The stations were designed by Wiggington, Hooker, and Jeffry Architectural Firm.

The projects are scheduled to begin construction on Tuesday, Nov. 17. We anticipate work to be completed in approximately 11 months, weather permitting.
