City of Round Rock Lifeguards Win 1st Place at 2023 Texas Lifeguard Competition
ROUND ROCK, TEXAS – This past Monday, the 31st, City of Round Rock Lifeguards participated in the 2023 Texas Lifeguard Competition and made history as the first RRTX guard team to earn a State Championship title.
This fantastic team was visited earlier this week by Mayor Craig Morgan and the Parks and Recreation Director, Rick Atkins, who congratulated the award-winning guards on this momentous victory.
The Round Rock Lifeguards competed with lifeguard teams from across the state of Texas, all of whom had qualified by earning a top 3 title at their respective regional competitions. Surrounded by the best of the best lifeguard teams in the state, the Round Rock Lifeguards showcased their skills and teamwork as they responded to the competition’s scenarios and emergency situations. Lifeguard teams were judged on their recognition, response time, skill performance, teamwork, communication, and ability to work under pressure in responding to multi-layered scenarios and mock rescue situations. The Championship Competition Team dedicated extensive hours to their skill development in performing water rescues and water safety protocols; the same tenants that guide the city’s lifeguard team in their daily work at city pools.
City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation Lifeguards have earned multiple local, state, and national awards for their dedication to safety, training, and culture. They were featured in the May 2023 edition of the National Recreation and Park’s Association’s Magazine showcasing their programs and practices.
