Applications now being accepting for 34th annual Citizen’s Police Academy

Published on January 11, 2017 under RRnews

The Round Rock Police Department will kick off its 34th annual Citizen’s Police Academy from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the police station located at 2701 N. Mays Street.

The CPA is a 10-week course that gives participants a behind the scenes look at what officers do every day. Participants meet officers from every division, like Animal Control, K9, Training and Recruiting, Dispatch, SWAT, Hostage Negotiations, Crime Scene, Evidence, Patrol, School Resource Program, Criminal Investigations and more.

The hands on academy allows locals to drive a police car in an obstacle course, and go to the shooting range and shoot firearms. Riding out with patrol officers is an option as well. The academy concludes with a graduation and dinner.

The requirements to attend the class are:

  • Someone who fits within the parameters of the goals, values, and mission of the Round Rock Police Department
  • Clear driver’s license
  • Completion of background check for involvement with the police

Class size is limited to 60 students. Submit an application online or email questions to [email protected].
