Writ Baese sworn in to second term on City Council

Councilmember Writ Baese takes the oath of office from State Rep. Larry Gonzales while son Tyler looks on.

Place 5 City Councilmember Writ Baese was sworn in to his second term of office Thursday, Jan. 14. State Rep. Larry Gonzales conducted the swearing in. Baese was joined by his wife, Kim, and one of his sons, Tyler.

Baese was re-elected in May, with more than 66 percent of the vote, over challenger Elie Andrew.

“I appreciate everything everybody here on the dais does to help me do the right thing for the community,” Baese said. “We may not always agree, but we’re always willing to work together for the good of Round Rock, and that’s huge.”

Baese thanked his brothers, who are also his business partners, as well as his wife and family for giving him the opportunity to serve on the City Council as well as coach youth sports and serve as a Scout leader. Baese noted his son Trevor was away on a church mission trip.

Baese took the opportunity to recognize Rep. Gonzales, who announced June 6 his retirement from the Legislature.

“He’s been the best friend Round Rock could ever have in the state Legislature,” Baese said. “He’s been a huge advocate for us, helping the City with the Texas State University campus and Kalahari.”

Later in the meeting, Baese was elected Mayor Pro-tem by his peers on the City Council.
