Williamson County lifts burn ban

Published on August 16, 2016 under RRnews

Update: Williamson County lifted the burn ban for unincorporated areas of Williamson County Monday, Aug. 15, 2016. Please continue to be cautious with any outdoor burning activity. Outdoor burning must be conducted under state regulations found in Texas Administrative Code Section 30 TAC 111.219.

Prior to conducting controlled burns, please take the following steps:

  1. Contact your local fire department. Some fire departments may require a burn permit.
  2. Contact Williamson County Communications at 512-864-8282 to report your burn. They can inform you of any burning restrictions that may exist.

On Thursday, July 28, the Williamson County Commissioners Court initiated a County-wide burn ban. Violation of the ban is considered a Class C misdemeanor and punishable by a fine up to $500.

A person violates this order if he, or she, burns any combustible material outside of an enclosure which serves to contain all flames and/or sparks, or orders such burning by others. The burn ban prohibits the burning of household yard waste, such as leaves, grass, brush and other yard trimmings. It also prohibits burning to clear land of trees, stumps, shrubbery, or other natural vegetation.

The ban is set in place for a period not to exceed 30 days and will be lifted when conditions improve.
