Three Officers Selected for 100 Club of Central Texas Awards

Published on March 26, 2018 under RRnews

Commander Jim Stuart, Sergeant Darin Bayles, and Officer Mike McCabe were selected as Guardian Angel recipients as part of the 35th Annual 100 Club of Central Texas Awards. They will be recognized at an awards banquet on May 5 in Georgetown.

In addition to his duties overseeing officer training, recruitment, and animal control, Cmd. Stuart co-founded the I Can Drum program to teach at-risk youth to play the drums. A detective in the Criminal Investigations Division, Sgt. Bayles was nominated by a widow who appreciated his compassion and diligence when investigating her husband’s suicide.

A school resource officer at Round Rock High School and a member of the RRPD Crisis Negotiations Team, Ofc. McCabe was nominated by a representative of Seton Medical Center Williamson for saving a life by applying a tourniquet to a man who accidentally shot himself. Ofc. McCabe will be recognized by the hospital during its Stop the Bleed training on March 29, as will Officer Chris Wilson who assisted in applying the tourniquet.

“Community outreach, treating victims with respect, and providing medical assistance are things that our Officers engage in every day.” said Police Chief Allen Banks. “Everyone at the Round Rock Police Department does an amazing job for the community. It’s nice to be recognized and these three are definitely deserving.”

The 100 Club of Central Texas is a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance to families of first responders who have been killed or critically injured in the line of duty. They recently assisted Round Rock Police Officer Charles Whites, who is in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle on Feb. 25.
