Sales tax collections up in Austin but down in these two area cities
Austin benefited from significant increases in sales tax collections in May relative to both the same period last year and the April dataset. Sales tax revenue is the net amount of money a city takes in as a result of the sales tax and reflects the amount of buyer participation in the economy. According to May returns released Wednesday by the Texas Comptroller, Austin saw a 7.5 percent increase in sales tax revenue from the same time period last year, as well as a 7.5 percent increase from April.
