Round Rock Police officer struck by vehicle while responding to accident on I-35

UPDATE: Northbound lanes of I-35 are now re-open following this incident.

A Round Rock Police officer was transported to the hospital for serious injuries following an accident Sunday morning.

At approximately 5:27 a.m., Round Rock Police Department received a welfare call about a pedestrian walking near Interstate 35. When officers arrived on scene, a deceased person was found on the highway near Old Settlers Boulevard. Northbound Interstate 35 was closed to allow first responders to work the scene.

At approximately 6:40 a.m., a Round Rock Police officer was struck by a car on the highway near Palm Valley Boulevard, while directing traffic around the scene. The officer was transported to the hospital for serious injuries.

The driver whose vehicle struck the officer is being held for investigation.
