Planning staff earns statewide recognition

Published on August 29, 2016 under RRnews

The City Planning and Development Services Department was awarded the 2016 Certificate of Achievement for Planning Excellence from the American Planning Association’s Texas Chapter. The award recognizes the City’s commitment to professional planning by City administration, elected and appointed officials, and exemplary professional standards demonstrated by the Planning staff.

More specifically, the City meets the American Planning Association Chapter’s goals for:

  • Increasing awareness of professional planning
  • Meeting certain professional requirements
  • Enhancing neighborhood and citizen recognition of planning efforts
  • Encouraging professional training for Planning Commissioners and City staff
  • Aiding in the City’s economic development and community image.

The City Council has made Planning a top priority recognizing it as an essential component in promoting economic development and fostering high quality neighborhoods. As one of the fastest growing communities in the nation, the City’s planning efforts are necessary to ensure orderly growth, provide adequate infrastructure to accommodate that growth, and to establish standards to promote high quality development. The Planning and Development Services Department prides itself on providing outstanding customer service and administering a well-coordinated development review process.

City Manager Laurie Hadley commended the Planning staff for its excellence in providing a myriad of services to our community.

“Our planning and development staff is second to none, and works diligently to meet the needs of its customers in a timely, professional manner,” Hadley said. “I’m thrilled they received this recognition from their peers.”

Planning has its hand in both long range and current land planning, demographics, historic preservation and development review and permitting.
