Officials break ground on North Mays Street extension
Williamson County and City of Round Rock officials broke ground today on the extension of North Mays from Paloma Drive to Oakmont Drive. The project is less than one mile in length and includes the design and construction of two lanes of a four-lane divided roadway.
“This amazing project will help reduce traffic on I-35 and give people a new route from Round Rock to the Georgetown area,” stated Precinct 1 Commissioner Terry Cook. “This is a project that shows yet again how our county enjoys working with our cities, and we’re working together to fund and get this project done.”
The design engineer on the project is LJA and the contractor is Capital Excavation. The project is anticipated to be completed in spring 2020.
“Partnerships like this are a great opportunity to maximize tax dollars for the benefit of our citizens,” said Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan. “This is a project that will connect motorists from Hester’s Crossing in Round Rock to Westinghouse in Georgetown, which helps us achieve our goal of offering residents more north-south corridors through our city.”
The current awarded budget is $10,775,835.75 with the city contributing 24 percent of the construction costs at $2,586,200.50, but not to exceed $3,800,000, and the county contributing the remainder through voter approved road bonds.
