Officers injured during high-risk traffic stop

Two Round Rock police officers injured while apprehending a man during a traffic stop were treated and released without serious injury on Thursday, July 25.

At 4:17 p.m. on Thursday, Round Rock police officers were conducting a high-risk traffic stop at Tiger Trail and Sunrise Road in Round Rock on a man known to have felony warrants when he fled in his vehicle.

The vehicle driven by Jonathan Deandre Neal, 30, of Round Rock, struck another vehicle near the intersection of Sunrise Road and Spring Breeze Drive. Neal fled on foot, and two officers were injured attempting to apprehend Neal. They were not seriously injured.

Neal was taken into custody nearby after officers deployed a taser. The injured officers and Neal were transported to a local hospital for treatment, and Neal was later booked into Williamson County Jail on charges of Assault on a Public Servant and Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle.

In addition, Neal was held on a Travis County felony warrant for Assault Causes Bodily Injury-Family Violence.
