Neighborhood street improvement program continues

The City of Round Rock plans to invest millions of dollars toward residential street improvements in the coming months as part of an ongoing program to repair and preserve pavement across the City’s road network.

Council members approved a contract with Andale Construction at the Aug. 9 Council meeting that will prolong the life of the pavement on streets in the Bent Tree neighborhood. Contractors will use a newly developed asphalt overly product that has recently been used in other Central Texas cities with success. The project is expected to take place sometime in November.

“What we’re really interested in with this product is the durability we’ve seen in other communities,” said Transportation Director Gary Hudder. “As these streets get closer to the point of deterioration this will help extend the life of the road.”

Council members recently approved a contract with Lone Star Materials at their July 26 meeting to make various curb and gutter, sidewalk, driveway, curb ramp and pavement repairs, in addition to milling and overlaying pavement in the areas of Eagle Ridge/Eagles Nest, Settlement/Sunrise Vista, Sunrise Park/Mesa Park and Egger Acres. The work is expected to take place this fall.

The City manages more than 1,150 lane miles of roadways within its jurisdiction. The Transportation Department’s street maintenance program aims to preserve and improve the conditions of existing roadways by monitoring the state of its roadways and systematically repairing or repaving the top layers of City streets as needed.
