Enroll now for Round Rock’s Citizens Police Academy

Published on July 24, 2018 under RRnews

The Round Rock Police Department is conducting open enrollment for the Citizens Police Academy, a 12-week educational opportunity that gives participants a behind the scenes look at the many functions of the police department.

The Citizens Police Academy is a hands-on course where participants will drive a police car in an obstacle course, go to a shooting range, work a mock crime scene and more. Citizens will meet officers from every division: K9 Unit, Training and Recruiting, Dispatch, SWAT, Hostage Negotiations, Crime Scene, Evidence, Patrol, School Resource Program and Criminal Investigations.

“This is an opportunity for the community to get an inside, hands-on look at what it’s like to work in law enforcement,” said Officer Todd Spradlin, who leads the Academy. “Keeping Round Rock safe is always our top priority and this program lets our community become more involved in that mission.”

Classes are held from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday at the department, 2701 N. Mays St. The course concludes with a graduation ceremony and dinner. Space is limited. A background check and clear driving record are required to enroll in the program. The fall 2018 class will start on Sept. 11 and graduation ceremonies will be held on Dec. 5.
