Contract for first phase of McNeil Road extension approved

Published on February 8, 2018 under RRnews

The Round Rock City Council approved a contract with Chasco Constructors for the McNeil Road extension phase 1 project at a regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, Feb. 8.

Phase 1 of the extension will tie in to the Southwest Downtown Phase 5B project at Mays Street bridge.  The road will continue along the south side of the planned Depot Townhomes project and will reconnect at Burnet Street. Phase 2 of the project is forthcoming and will extend the roadway from Burnet Road to Georgetown Street. A map depicting both phases may be found below.

The Depot Townhomes project is a planned 82 unit development at the old Gypsum Builders Supply property. The roadway extension will be routed through the property and will serve as a bypass to Downtown. The new alignment will improve the flow of traffic, reduce travel times and will increase connectivity for both motorists and pedestrians. The approximate length of phase 1 of the extension is .23 miles and it will be constructed as a 3-lane roadway.

Phase 1 will begin in March and will be completed in late fall while phase 2 is anticipated to begin in late summer.  The Depot Townhomes project is currently in the City’s site plan review process and a groundbreaking date has not yet been set.
