City names Sports Center Complex in honor of former Mayor Alan McGraw
On Wednesday, Jan. 10, City officials, community leaders, friends and family gathered to celebrate the naming of the Round Rock Sports Center Complex in honor of former Mayor Alan McGraw.
“This is the easiest decision this Council will ever have to make,” said Mayor Craig Morgan. “To recognize the vision that Alan has had for the sports tourism industry.”
Recently featured on the “World’s Greatest!” television series, The Sports Center Complex features an 82,800-square-foot indoor sports center that includes six basketball courts, 12 volleyball courts, and 47,775 square feet of open space. From youth volleyball tournaments to Special Olympics events to the Collegiate Table Tennis Championship and many others, the complex hosts over 50 tournaments a year and is a beacon of Round Rock’s “Sports Capital of Texas” brand.
An avid sportsman himself, McGraw was a champion of the City’s effort to invest in bringing tourism dollars to Round Rock via youth sports during his tenure on the City Council and as Mayor.
“Facilities like these create great opportunity for families to spend time together,” said former Mayor McGraw. “And if they’re going to spend time together, I’d rather them spend that time and money here in Round Rock.”
In addition to the Sports Center Complex, Round Rock is home to several other championship-level sports facilities, including the newly constructed Round Rock Multipurpose Complex, Champion Baseball and Softball Fields at Old Settlers Park, and the Dell Diamond.
