City Council to consider $1.47 solid waste fee increase
The City Council is scheduled to vote Thursday, Jan. 25, on a $1.47 monthly rate increase for residential trash and recycling services. Round Rock Refuse, the service provider, requested a new rate to offset increased costs for landfill fees, fuel and overhead.
The proposal would increase the rate, including sales tax and administrative costs, to $20.53 per month from $19.06 per month. Increased landfill costs account for $1 of the increase. Landfill costs have increased an average of 5 percent per year since 2009. Other major components of the requested increase include fuel (11 cents) and overhead (26 cents).
The increase would require two votes. The new rate would go into effect after the scheduled second reading vote on Feb. 8.
The last rate increase for customers occurred in January 2014.
