Canine Corral to house dogs during construction

The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter is moving dogs to a temporary shelter during construction and renovations that will improve its facilities.

The temporary shelter, dubbed the “Canine Corral,” is located in the San Gabriel Park show barn located at 425 E. Morrow St. and feature 94 kennels. The temporary shelter will be open to the public from Monday through Friday from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dog surrenders must be done by appointment, which can be made by emailing [email protected].

A new 16,970 square-foot, two-story addition to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter has been underway since January and renovations to the current facility have commenced. The improvements will update the dog adoption area by replacing the drainage system, resurfacing floors, installing new air conditioning units and updating the kennels. The entire project is expected to be completed in spring 2019.

The Regional Animal Shelter is home to lost and abandoned animals of Round Rock, Cedar Park, Hutto, Leander, and Williamson County. Housing the dogs in a temporary shelter will save the Williamson County taxpayers $500,000 in building costs and cut six months of construction time, according to shelter officials.

The public can participate and help by signing up to bring “pupsicles” at tinyurl.com/WCRASPupsicles, fostering a dog, or adopting during one of the shelter’s construction and renovation adoption specials. 

Lost, surrendered and adoptable cats will continue to be housed at the 1855 SE Inner Loop shelter.
